You know, I’ve always felt Gungrave would have been better without zombie Brandon. Just do arc in the past (which was excellent), and then come back to the present and do the final scene with Brandon being the hallucination of someone who wants a friend and ally again as the walls close in. The undead stuff, and especially the quirky miniboss squad for Brandon to fight, is just a bit too silly, but take that out and you have a pretty good gangster movie.
